Food & Diet Therapy for
Degenerative Eye Disorders

Tips from Arkansas Acupuncture Center in Bentonville, Arkansas

For those receiving acupuncture for degenerative eye disorders at the Arkansas Acupuncture Center, nutritional supplementation and proper diet are essential for long-term care of the vision, and to maintain the benefits of the treatments.

The multivitamin specifically formulated for vision disorders, Visio-Plex contains the essential ingredients for maintaining healthy vision. However, the multivitamin does not contain omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin D or sufficient vitamin C, so we recommend adding those to your daily intake. In some cases, Chinese herbal formulas are recommended. If you are suffering from a long-term, enduring chronic disease, supplementation is essential; we need to think in terms of therapeutic doses. Foods that include the nutrients necessary for proper health, while important, are not strong enough to bring about the desired healing effect.

However, good diet is vital. Foods such as leafy greens, fruits and good quality fresh fish (non-GMO, non-farm raised) are recommended, as well as any good quality protein such as organic or grass fed beef, or chicken that is free from antibiotics, steroid hormones and fed a natural diet. Equally important is the avoidance of certain foods; packaged, processed foods that contain MSG (now called natural flavor), corn syrup (now called natural sweetener), preservatives, and artificial sweeteners (these are very dangerous to the eyes and brain.) Read the label!!

If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, or don’t have it in your own kitchen, don’t buy the product. Buy organic as much as possible, and avoid cold foods and beverages, especially ice water. Cold foods can weaken the blood vessels. Those with “wet” macular degeneration need to pay particular attention to this.
