I was a long time glaucoma patient of Dr. Per Otte of West Virginia. Since his passing, I have been searching for another practitioner who could help me maintain my glaucoma, and this is how I came across Dr. Lizbeth Ryan. I live in New York City and I made the long trip to Arkansas full of hope. Dr. Ryan did not disappoint!!! When I first went to the Arkansas Therapy Center I was legally blind. January 1, 2004, I was handling dynamite and by doing so I got a large charge of nitro glycerine. It went through the skin and caused the blood vessels in the eyes to rupture. After the hemorrhage, in March of 2004, I came to the Arkansas Therapy Center. My sister’s boss, who had eye problems related to MS, had gone to the clinic and recommended it to me. It took a few weeks to get over my skepticism, but I knew I had nothing to lose. I asked Dr. Mayo in Oxford, MS, whether he thought it was a good idea to go to Arkansas and he told me that since they have been doing acupuncture for over 2000 years there’s got to be something to it.
After a week of treatments, I was able to drive part of the way home. I couldn’t believe it could work that fast. I kept improving for three weeks. I went to my regular eye doctor and with my glasses I was seeing at 20/30 in the right eye. I couldn’t believe it was that good.
About 7 to 8 years ago I had a hemorrhage in the left eye and the doctors removed the vitreous jelly and put in a silicone oil implant. It’s still there. Then the doctors did cataract surgery and put the wrong implant in. After that first trip to Arkansas, there was some improvement in that eye as well.
There are a lot of people that are very skeptical about the treatment working. I have seen people give that old horse grin in disbelief. I have seen people roll their eyes. Every time I see this I thank God and Dr. Ryan that I can see. If these people don’t believe and choose not to see that is their choice and priveledge. I am just proud I can see.
At first week of treatment, the scan on Wednesday showed some improvement but on Thursday I was in the hotel room when I began to see the writing scroll across the bottom of the TV screen. I picked up the Bible. I could read the top page of the Book of the Bible. This was the first thing I was able to read in 3 months. I was so excited.
When I returned for my second visit 10 months later the staff did a visual field scan on my first day. The scan looked so good that Dr. Ryan insisted that I retake the scan because she thought I might have been trigger happy. The second scan showed the same level of improvement as the first.

I was at your clinic from August 30 to September 3, 2004. I probably told you that I teach piano and was concerned about not being able to see the tiny numbers for the fingering. Also, I was concerned about not being able to tell that the cardinals on the bird feeder were red last winter. They were just gray. When we got home I was able to see the tiny numbers on the music. About 3 weeks later I was looking out the window and saw red berries on a holly bush 30 feet away. I was ecstatic. I’d never seen them except when I walked right up to the bush. On the little chart you gave me, my vision was 20/120 the day I came to the clinic. 4 weeks later it was 20/60. I had only spent one week at the clinic getting treatments. With my glasses it was 20/25. It would be good to have 2 or 3 charts with different orders of letters, or even different letters. I keep trying not to memorize the chart! Just wanted to send a big thank you for your help.

Hi, My name is Elaine Pinkerton and I would like for anyone with macular degeneration to know about the Arkansas Therapy Center. In 1999, at the age of 59, I was diagnosed with MD and was told there was nothing that could be done. Basically, I was told to go home and go blind. The same week, one of our local TV stations had a special on the Arkansas Therapy Center and the great results that they were getting with eye treatments. I called the next day. What a wonderful thing that acupuncture can help your eyes. Dr. Per Otte started treating me in 1999. I go back to Arkansas for a week or two each year.
Dr Lizbeth Ryan has been doing treatments at the clinic since 2003. As always, when someone new takes over you wonder if the treatment will be the same. My results get better all the time. I don’t think there is a cure for MD, but this will prolong my eyesight and has already done so for 5 years. My eyesight is actually getting better. Thank you Dr. Ryan for continuing in Dr. Otte’s clinic. I feel secure and confident that my eyes are in good hands.
Sometimes I feel like I’m on a soap box, referring people to the clinic that I meet or who call me about MD. But what great news I get from these people, some who could not read are now reading and using there computer keyboard again. Some are driving again. And some are thrilled at being able to watch TV and read road signs. I continue to tell all that I meet about the clinic and Dr. Ryan.
What a great clinic with nice caring people, and you meet people from all over the US and some from other countries. It’s a great feeling to see so many of us with MD with smiles on our faces and hope in our hearts. It’s wonderful to know you don’t have to sit and wait to go blind. I have a family history of MD. My Grandmother and one of my uncles were blind. With the help of Dr. Ryan we can win. I feel that my eye care is in very good hands.

I’m sure I am one of the many thousands that have been told they have Macular Degeneration. What a terrible shock. My ophthalmologist put me through many tests. End results, I was told I was losing my eyesight and there was nothing medically that could be done.
My sister-in-law, knowing my diagnosis, saw a presentation on TV discussing Macular Degeneration and an acupuncture treatment that could possibly save my sight.
I was skeptical at first, but later proven very wrong.
My first screening was in April, 1999. This confirmed that I had severe Macular Degeneration. After the first series of treatments, my vision improved significantly. I have been returning every 12 to 18 months for continued therapy, and my vision has been stabilized for the past two years.
I now sit on our back deck watching the golfers and following that little white ball to the green, some 150 yards away.
Thanks to micro acupuncture, I now drive, watch TV, read, and play cards. In short, I lead a normal life.

After two separate weeks of acupuncture treatments at Northwest Arkansas Acupuncture Center, I am extremely excited and pleased with my results. Since I have Stargardt’s disease, my eye doctor has done nothing but give me the bad news of my worsening condition for the last ten or so years. He saw some improvement after my first week of acupuncture, but after the second week of treatment I received the amazing news that my eyesight is back to where it was in 2007. I am SO excited since that is four years I have had given back to me. I can’t wait until I can go back to get more acupuncture treatments from Dr. Liz, and see how much more eyesight I can regain. After being told for years that there was medically no hope for my eyes until they perfected retina replacement, I now have hope again!

I’m still pinching myself to see if this is a dream. My vision was so poor when I came to see you for the micro acupuncture treatments. And it improved so dramatically while getting the treatments that I was waiting for the “ball to drop”. I had half expected to wake up one morning to the same ole’ blur. But it has been 20+ days now and it continues to improve. This morning I went to my optometrist and he fitted me with corrective lens. Unfortunately, I couldn’t convince him that this improvement was due to the micro acupuncture. It wasn’t enough “proof” for him. But so what, some people just don’t want to see it for what it is. There are always going to be those people that see only the clouds and not the silver lining. That’s their problem; not mine. I am the lucky one, however, I am the recipient of the renewed vision. I also see well enough to drive again. So again many thanks.
I’ll be seeing you in a few months. In fact, I am thinking of making it a leisurely, scenic drive down.

Jack is 91 years old and has been coming to Arkansas Acupuncture Center since September 2011. Before acupuncture Jack’s macular degeneration was so bad that he was not able to see well enough to drive. Fortunately, after finding the Arkansas Acupuncture Center he is now able to drive again. Jack first came to AAC September 5, 2011 and has since received a total of 24 treatments.

After I had my first course of acupuncture treatments, I went back to my doctor and was told I no longer had glaucoma. Although I now have glaucoma, I am watching it and keeping it under control with acupuncture. At one time, I had an eye pressure of 34. Recently, it was down to 12. I’ve reached the maintenance stage with my treatments. I am going to use my new lemon and honey drops before I return to my eye doctor, and see how low my pressure is with the combination of this round of treatments and the drops. I’m under regular care from a leading ophthalmologist, and he can see the results of the acupuncture treatments. I’m anxious to go back to my doctor and see what the results are this time. Liz has the heart of a healer, and I can tell she is truly a giver.

“I saw a TV commercial in the fall of 2013 for the acupuncture center and the treatment of Macular Degeneration. I didn’t pursue it until the spring of 2014 because I was told that nothing could be done. A medical professional I was seeing told me that Dr. Ryan was specially trained in that field, and he recommended I see what she could do.
When I went to her, I had lost my ability to read even with a magnifying glass, and I had a film of yellowish-brown that I saw through. I could no longer see a bright sunshiny day or a bright TV picture. After three treatments, the dark yellow-brown film was gone, and I could see the bright sunshine and TV. I also regained my ability to read with a magnifying glass. The blurriness remains, but I can really see what I feel is almost 50% improvement. I know there is no cure but hopefully by going for follow-up treatment 3-4 times a year, I’ll be able to hold it at bay for sometime to come.

“My name is Tim Haley and I came up here from East Texas to have the vision treatment done. I came back in 1999 for Keratoconus, the disease of the cornea I have. I was born with it, had it my whole life and my vision doesn’t really get better, it gets worse all the time. After I had it done in 1999 my prescription for my eyes stabilized. My eye doctor marveled at it because he specializes in this and has had a lot of patients with this and says he’s never seen vision stabilize at the degree that mine had advanced. It was just unheard of and he marveled at it. So here I am again. It’s been 14 years, I guess. I’m back for another treatment and I’m real excited about it. This is my fourth day of having acupuncture done. There’s a balcony out front here with a shopping mall and there’s signs on the front of the building but I couldn’t see the edges of the letters. Yesterday I could see not only the letters but I could see the black ring around the letters that I couldn’t see before. So it’s very exciting and I’m really really happy, thrilled and tickled pink about the improvements in my vision.

Dear Dr. Ryan,
In 2006, at age 55, I experienced a sudden onset of wet macular degenertion in my left eye. I had three injections of macugen into that eye, over a three-month period. I believe the bleeding was arrested. After the initial shot, my vision stabilized, but each additional shot seemed only to weaken the health of my eye, without improving my vision. I opted to stop that treatment approach and micro acupuncture with Dr. Ryan.
After one week of treatment, scans showed vast improvement in both my healthy and my diseased eye. The vision in my diseased eye stabilized to the point it had shown after my first injection. I was able to maintain this level of health and vision in both eyes until 2010.
At that time, my diseased eye began a slow loss of vision, but also constant watering, tiredness and severe aversion to bright lights. A few times the eye just “blanked out”.
I then returned to the acupuncture treatments. I cannot believe the incredible results I experienced. No more strain, tiredness, tearing, blurring or light aversion.
The treatments of micro acupuncture offers hope of keeping the eyes healthy. I believe that anyone receiving invasive treatment into the eye itself should include once or twice yearly acupuncture treatments to address the health of the eyes as well as the treatment of the disease.
The injections are a miraculous medical breakthrough. They are enabling thousands of people to live life with sight. But the acupuncture keeps the eye healthy. As Dr Ryan once told me, “Your eyes want to heal. This can help them do that.”

About 10 years ago, I discovered I had macular degeneration. I had three laser treatments early on for leaking in my eyes. Then, I was recommended to come here for treatments by my medical doctor. After my first round of treatments, I got home and that’s when I noticed that the grass was greener. The air looked cleaner because the haze was gone from my vision. I used to not be able to tell the difference between pocket change. I didn’t know the difference between a nickel and a dime and a quarter. Shortly after my first treatment, I could tell the difference again. The pressure in my eyes started climbing about the time I started receiving acupuncture treatments. I never told my ophthamologist that I was coming to Arkansas Acupuncture Center for treatments. The last time I went to see him, he told me that my pressure was back to normal and wanted to know what was going on. Now I only have to see him once a year instead of every few months.

My name is Edith Jones, age 51. I was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) and was considered legally blind at age 24. I grew up in Stigler, Oklahoma but have resided in Lutz, Florida for the past 19 years.
I heard about the Arkansas Acupuncture Center and Dr. Lizbeth Ryan from a man in Texas. I immediately called Dr. Ryan to inquire about her services. I arrived at the clinic two weeks later. I received treatments three times a year for the next 2.5 years, since then I am being treated twice a year. If it wasn’t for Dr. Ryan, I would have no reason to go to Arkansas and spend money at the clinic, hotel, restaurants, stores and neither would the other patients who are seeking help from Arkansas Acupuncture Center.
When I arrived for my first visit I couldn’t read, distinguish people or things. I was always hitting my head, falling and running into things, often hurting myself. The acupuncture services I have received have changed my everyday life. When you can see to clean your house, work in your yard, (I couldn’t see limbs, leaves, flowers, I only saw blobs) even dress where your clothes match, and put on makeup, it sure makes life easier. I was surprised I didn’t still look 30 years old, boy was I mistaken! I challenge you to cover your eyes with wax paper for 1 hour a day and try to do things. You will experience what I and many other patients have to deal with all day, every day. Treatment for Migraine and Whiplash

I have greatly benefited from the acupuncture treatment I have received at the Arkansas Acupuncture Center for the injuries I had sustained in a car wreck resulting in severe whiplash in my neck and classic cluster migraines. I was treated with muscle relaxers, pain pills, anti-inflammatories and anti-seizure meds for the migraines. I also went through two rounds of physical therapy for 6 weeks. I continued to get worse and soon quit driving because of all the medication I was on. Since I have been receiving acupuncture I have been able to get off my meds and stay off. My quality of life has greatly improved and I am back to an active life. I now have two grandchildren that I just could not imagine not being able to pick up and hold. My outlook was pretty bleak. I’m so glad I have an open mind to be able to try other medical treatments, when others do not work for me.
