Usher's Syndrome

MicroAcupuncture for Usher's Syndrome in Northwest Arkansas

Usher’s syndrome is a condition of Retinitis Pigmentosa where the patient simultaneously experiences hearing loss. About three to six percent of children who experience hearing loss will also be diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa.

Most individuals are born with Usher's Syndrome. There are three variations of Usher Syndrome: I, II, & III. The variations of Usher Syndrome are determined by the amount of hearing loss associated. The Retinis Pigmentosa will worsen over time, in some cases patients will develop cataracts.

Acupuncture for Retinitis Pigmentosa will assist by repairing some of the damage to help restore vision for those with Usher’s syndrome, but will not necessarily help with the hearing loss. In these cases it is especially important to be aggressive with treatment since it will be extremely difficult for a child or adult to lose both vision and hearing.

The treatment we use is called MicroAcupuncture, a system developed in Denmark. It is helpful for all types of degenerative eye diseases. It is similar to the macular degeneration treatment, Stargardt’s treatment, Rod-Cone Dystrophy treatment, Glaucoma treatment and Diabetic Retinopathy treatment.
