It is estimated that about 15 million Americans are legally blind, or 5% of our population.  I hope you will help enlighten our community and your readers of the difficulties people with vision disorders face in a world made for those who can see.

Julie came to my clinic in 2003 for the first time.  She was sixteen years old and suffering from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a group of genetic eye disease that cause degeneration of the photoreceptor cells in the retina, which is the area in the eye that contains light sensitive cells called rods and cones.  The optic nerve senses images and sends them to the visual cortex in the brain.
